Died Sunday, February 24, 2013

Memorial Service Saturday March 2, 2013, 10:30AM
Beach Funeral Home, 1689 S. Patrick Dr.
Indian Harbour Beach, FL

John Slack died peacefully in the early morning of February 24th, at his home in Indian Harbour Beach. John is survived by his wife, Shirley; five children, fourteen grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. John was a family man.

He was born in Burning Sands Springs, Oklahoma to John and Bertha Slack. He had two siblings. He obtained undergraduate and graduate degrees from Oklahoma State, and later, Colorado Universities.

John, like many young Americans, knew early in his life that he wanted to serve his county. He served, after college, for several years in the Air Force. Then, because of his exceptional skills, he went to work at the National Security Agency; rising to several executive level positions. Following his NSA Service, he was selected to be Assistant Secretary of Defense for Intelligence during the Carter Administration. John was a patriot!

In retirement from government service, John couldn't resist the opportunities and lifestyle offered in Florida. He became a successful entrepreneur and brought fresh life and success to more than one defense electronics organization. More importantly, John, along with many friends, became a staunch supporter of many Brevard County Charitable organizations and activities. He proudly served on the Board of Trustees for Florida Tech, for 20 years.
In his leisure moments, he enjoyed a morning coffee camaraderie, with a number of also retired, equally distinguished, local citizens, extra ordinary folks all, and to a man, they are convinced that John is locating that coffee club, in the sky, and will welcome them when their turn arrives.

A memorial service, will be held Saturday, March 2, 2013, 10:30am, at Beach Funeral Home, 1689 S. Patrick Dr., Indian Harbour Beach. Condolences may be shared at www.beachfuneralhome.com.
