Laverne "Gayle" Sanders, 73, of Cuero, Texas passed away Thursday, February 16, 2012. She was born December 28, 1938 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to the late Vernon Clark and Thelma Sylvinus Frisbie Ferguson. She was a 1956 graduate of Will Rogers High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She married Joe David Sanders on September 2, 1961 in Redmond, Oregon. Gayle was self employed owning Gayle's Women's Boutique for many years. She was a member of AARP, a member of Cuero Hospital Auxiliary where she had served as president, served with the Candy Stripers, was the founder of The Blood Mobile, and served as the City of Cuero Election Judge Coordinator. She was active in the DeWitt County Shutterbug Camera Club, the Victoria Camera Club, the Boy Scouts of America, The DeWitt County Wildflower Association, and created a scholarship fund to help students.
      Gayle is survived by her daughter, Michelle Sanders Mueller and husband, Larry of Friendswood; son Michael David Sanders and wife, Christie of Dripping Springs; sister, Susie Long of Verdigris, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Madesyn Mueller of Friendswood and Blaine and Blayre Sanders, both of Dripping Springs; and step-grandchildren, Monique Mueller Dennis of Humble and Brandon Mueller of Houston.
      She was preceded in death by husband Joe David Sanders on January 3, 2010.
      Visitation will be Sunday, February 19, 2012 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home. Services will be Monday, February 20, 2012, 2 p.m., at Freund Funeral Home with Pastor Terry Brown officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
      Memorial contributions may be made to The DeWitt County Wildflower Association, The Cuero Humane Society, or The Cuero Community Hospital Auxiliary.
